  • A medicinal chemist tells us

Find out more about what a medicinal chemist does with us.

    Tobias Ginman

Tobias Ginman, works in the medicinal chemistry department.

Tell us a bit about your role and your work at Sprint Bioscience?

Tobias: I am a principal scientist and chemistry project manager, which means that I prioritise which molecules to develop and send for different tests. As head of chemistry, I work closely with other disciplines. We work with data-driven drug development, where the knowledge from analyses of each new molecule forms the basis for the next molecule that we manufacture.

Why did you join Sprint Bioscience?

Tobias: Before joining Sprint Bioscience, I did research at Astrazeneca in Södertälje. When I was asked in 2011 if I was interested in joining Sprint Bioscience, I said yes to the opportunity to be at a smaller company and be able to influence my own work more.

How does Sprint Bioscience differ from other workplaces you have visited?

Tobias: There is a big difference. In a large company, you're usually a small cog in a big machine and you feel forced into a mould that may not suit you. At Sprint Bioscience, we utilise the unique talents of our employees and you get the chance to develop. It also helps that everyone knows everyone and has the same drive and goals.

What is the best thing about working at Sprint Bioscience?

Tobias: That the work I put in has a direct impact on how the project goes and ultimately how the company does. Everyone here is always doing their utmost with their part in the work process - it's so rewarding to be part of it and you can almost feel the momentum. We also have a lot of fun together.

Who do you think should apply to Sprint Bioscience?

Tobias: Anyone who wants to work on developing medicines the way it should be done. If you want to be part of the cure for cancer and realise your creativity and unique talents, this is the place to be.

  • A tumour biologist tells us

Find out more about what a tumour biologist does with us.

    Santiago Parpal

Santiago Parpal works in the Department of Tumour Biology.

Tell us a bit about your role and your work at Sprint Bioscience?

I am the Principal Scientist and Biology Project Leader. I ensure that what we do in my discipline is of high scientific quality, and that we implement new methods or knowledge into the project team. As a project manager, I make sure that the activities done within the project add value, are carried out on time, with the best possible results and at the right cost. This includes activities carried out internally, as well as those we carry out together with external companies or through academic collaborations.

Why did you join Sprint Bioscience?

I joined Sprint Bioscience because it was very exciting to be part of a then relatively new company, with an entrepreneurial spirit. I was given the opportunity to be involved in different parts of the daily work, find new ways and develop in a growing environment. I had previously worked at Astra Zeneca and saw how this "small company" picked the strengths of the "big ones" in the pharmaceutical industry. After my first job interview, I realised that the feeling was right, I would thrive here!

How does Sprint Bioscience differ from other workplaces you have visited?

I think the entrepreneurial spirit is still there, but the company has evolved. I have experience from large companies, where the organisational complexity often results in long decision-making chains and very little room for flexibility in your position. The company culture at Sprint Bioscience promotes participation in both own and common goals.

What is the best thing about working at Sprint Bioscience?

I think the best thing is to work with employees who are talented, caring and committed. There is a strong willingness to co-operate, and you get the feeling that everyone's attitude is to use their expertise and experience to help solve various challenges and develop projects. Transparency, scientific expertise, purposefulness and curiosity are important values that are evident when working here.

Who do you think should apply to Sprint Bioscience?

Anyone who is passionate about drug development, wants to work in exciting projects and wants to develop professionally. I think flexibility, goal-orientation and commitment are qualities that fit well at Sprint Bioscience.
